Hull Surface Treatment (HST) technology is a new environmentally friendly hull cleaning technology for treating the growth on a ship's hull.

It uses no chemicals, detergents or substances which are foreign or harmful to the marine environment. HST instantly kills growth which is then abraded in open seas.

HST representatives recently attended the Sustainable Shipping Conference in Miami where HST was displayed as part of the Technology Showcase. One of the many key note speakers was Mr Keith Johnson, the inventor of the HST technology. Other speakers at this international event were Andreas Chrysostomou Chairman IMO Marine Environment Protection Committee, Bill Williams Vice President Health Safety & Environment Maersk Inc, Kathy Metcalf Director, Maritime Affairs Chamber of Shipping of America and Paul Holthus Executive Director World Ocean Council amongst others.

The focus of the conference was Shipping – From the Cradle to the Grave which “took the issue of sustainability beyond just environmental issues to encompass the wider implications of shipping's life cycle performance.” Some interesting technologies were presented at the conference demonstrating that there is significant focus globally on improving the impact of the maritime industry on the environment.
